Robert Griffin III and his high-scoring Washington Redskins (3-4) have a test on their hands this weekend as they head into Heinz Field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3). These two squads haven’t met up since the 2008 season when the Steelers won 23-6 on the road as a 1-point underdog. Pittsburgh is going to be favored by 4.5 on the point spread for the 2012 matchup, while the total sits at either 46.5 or 47 depending on where you look to place your bet.

Washington has bested the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Minnesota Vikings this season while losing against the New York Giants, Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, and the St. Louis Rams. They have shown they have the ability to beat any team on any given weekend, but also the ability to lose to any team. The Redskins can score points but might have the worst defense in the NFL this year.
Pittsburgh has battled injuries all season long and will once again be without running back Rashard Mendenhall on Sunday for this 1:00 PM ET matchup. The Steelers are also going to be without safety Troy Polamalu and tackle Marcus Gilbert, while the Redskins won’t have wide receiver Pierre Garcon and safety Brandon Meriweather back for another few games.
The Steelers hold wins over the Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Jets this year, while their losses have come against the Tennessee Titans, Oakland Raiders, and Denver Broncos. Pittsburgh’s defense has had issues stopping the run this year and they’ve lost in 3 of the 4 games in which the other team has put up more yardage on the ground. Washington has been outrushed all season so it will be interesting to see how the Steelers handle the ground attack of the Redskins.
