The 2011 Sun Bowl matchup between the Utah Utes (7-5) and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-4) on December 31st will be the first bowl game of the year that isn’t played on ESPN or ESPN2.
CBS has the broadcasting rights to this game and the Yellow Jackets are currently favored by 3 with a total of 50.5.
Georgia Tech opened up as a 4-point favorite with a total of 49, so both sets of odds have shifted a bit in the days leading up to the 2:00 PM ET kickoff.
El Paso, Texas is the location of the Sun Bowl and the game has been running ever since 1935.
Utah won the Sun Bowl in 1939 but hasn’t returned since, while Georgia Tech will also be returning for the first time since taking home a win in the 1970 edition of this postseason game.
Utah’s 4-2 record away from home actually eclipses the 3-2 mark that Georgia Tech has amassed on the road, but it apparently wasn’t enough for the college football odds makers to put the Utes as the favorite.
These two teams actually met up in 2005 when Utah won 38-10 on the road as 9-point underdogs.
The total barely went over the 46.5 that was available for wagering, and it appears that bettors are thinking another high-scoring game may be in the cards with the line move we’ve seen throughout the week.

Utah is coming off of a 14-17 loss against Colorado as a 22.5-point favorite, but the Utes were winners in their previous 4 while covering the point spread in 3 of those games.
Georgia Tech started the season off well but has lost in 4 of their last 6 games while covering the point spread in just 1 of their last 8 games this year.
