While a lot of teams are complaining about weak bowl matchups this season, I have a feeling that the Nevada Wolfpack (7-5) and the #21 Southern Missi Golden Eagles are pretty happy with where they wound up.
The two teams will meet up in the 2011 Hawaii Bowl and it’s not much of a stretch to say they’ll be playing under some nice weather.
Southern Miss and Nevada last met up in 1998 when the Golden Eagles won 55-28 on the road, while also winning 35-19 at home the year before.
The Golden Eagles failed to cover the point spread in their first 2 games this season but got much stronger as the year went on, failing to cover the line only twice over their final 11 games.
Southern Miss will be a 6-point favorite in the Hawaii Bowl but has been bet down from the opening line of -6.5 despite appearing to be the vastly superior team in recent weeks.
Nevada has won just 1 of their last 3 this season despite being favored in all 3 games.
Las Vegas has the total at 63.5, while online sportsbooks have the number closer to 61. This seems like a good game to try to middle if the odds hold up, although the two lines are much more likely to drift closer to one another as get closer to the 8:00 PM ET kickoff on December 24th.
Nevada games have gone under the total in their last 3 losses and have gone over in 4 straight victories.
Southern Miss has been a great over play lately and has exceeded the total in 4 of their previous 5 heading into the Hawaii Bowl.
