The 2011 Las Vegas Bowl matchup will pit the #6 Boise State Broncos (11-1) against the Arizona State Sun Devils (6-6) in a game that some are predicting could end in a big upset.
The Broncos are currently 14-point favorites and won the 2010 Las Vegas Bowl in dominating fashion over Utah.
Close to 75% of tracked college football bettors are taking Boise State to cover the point spread despite their 4-8 mark on the year against the odds.
Arizona State has been even worse at 3-8-1 against the point spread, and their 1-4 record on the road pales in comparison to the perfect 6-0 tally that the Broncos have amassed.
This one figures to be a high-scoring game and the total is set at 66. The line has actually been bet down from the opener of 68 despite the fact that Arizona State games have gone over the number in 10 of their 12 this season.
The Broncos have been over winners in 7 of their 12, and this will be the first meeting between these two squads since 1996 when the Sun Devils won 56-7 at 38-point favorites during the early stages of the Boise State program.
A big reason why some are predicting Arizona State to hang close in this one is due to Boise State’s massive cornerback injuries.
The Broncos lost against TCU in the only recent game in which they were outgained through the air, the Sun Devils pass for 310.2 yards a game.
Although Arizona State hasn’t covered a point spread in 4 straight, Boise State hasn’t done so in 6 straight.
The game will be shown live on ESPN and kickoff is slated for 8:00 PM ET on December 22nd.
