The undefeated #6 Houston Cougars (12-0) have one more chance to drop a game and lose their BCS bid, and it will come in the CUSA Championship Game against the #23 Southern Miss Golden Eagles (10-2).
Houston will be the home team in this one but there are some early warning signs indicating that the game might be much closer than many are expecting it to be.
The game will be shown on ABC and kickoff is slated for 12:00 PM ET on Saturday.
Houston opened up as a 17-point favorite but has been bet down to -13.5 despite the fact that nearly 75% of tracked college football bets on the point spread are on the Cougars.
A huge line move against the public’s favorite usually is an indicator of a potential upset, but Houston has also covered the point spread in 10 of their 12 games this season.
The total has been bet down from its opener of 73 to where it currently sits at 72.
The home team has won all 6 head-to-head meetings between these schools since 2004, with Southern Miss winning 59-41 most recently in 2010 as 3.5-point favorites.
Houston was a 6.5-point home favorite in 2009 and won 50-43, and the Cougars have covered the point spread in 4 of the last 6 against Southern Miss.
The over has hit in 4 straight games when these schools meet up, and the betting favorite has covered the spread in 5 straight.
The Cougars have won all their games this year, but they also haven’t played a team with less than 4 losses in what amounts to one of the easiest schedules in college football.
The Golden Eagles have covered the point spread in both games this year in which they were the underdog, but have lost outright as favorites of a touchdown or more.
