The Mississippi State Bulldogs (0-0) will take on the Memphis Tigers (0-0) in one of the most anticipated college football games on Thursday’s opening day schedule.
Memphis will be at home but the Tigers haven’t beaten Mississippi State in any of their 10 meetings since 2005.
The Bulldogs have covered the college football odds in the last 5 straight meetings, including a 49-7 victory last season that saw Memphis not even get close as 21.5-point underdogs on the spread.
The point spread odds at the Wynn sportsbook in Las Vegas show that Mississippi State is favored by 31 with the over/under set at 50.5.
Online sportsbooks show just a tick more respect to the Tigers with the line at -30.5, but it appears that some big money wagers have been made on the Bulldogs after this clash opened up at -24.
The total is at 50.5 online as well and has seen only minimal action since the number of 50 was released originally.
Memphis does have some injury concerns here although both of their important dinged players are expected to suit up on Thursday.
Running back Jerrell Rhodes (469 rushing yards, 68 receiving yards) has an ankle injury while wide receiver Marcus Rucker (41 catches, 704 yards) is dealing with a hurt knee.
Both Tigers are listed as probable and should be ready to go when this game gets underway at its 8:00 PM ET start time.
Watching this game on television is a bit tricky since the major networks are not carrying it.
Those in Mississippi are likely to find the action on the SportsSouth channel, while others may have better luck on a FSN (Fox Sports Net) listing.
Comcast subscribers can watch on MSG Plus or on Comcast Sportsnet Bay Area and Mid-Atlantic Plus.
